Collection: DMD Metal

About the Artist
Derek Mckay Duncan ( the "DMD" in DMD Metal ) grew up in the midwest, the son of a printmaker and metalsmith. Through the years, his creativity and design sense became a unique reflection of his parents creative practices.
After moving to San Francisco in the early 2000’s, he received training at the esteemed Revere Academy.
Soon after, he was immersed in the jewelry trade, working for well known jewelers and designers in the Bay Area. The foundation for his work comes from over a decade of experience in manufacturing, antique restoration, repair and custom work.

DMD Metal currently resides in Raleigh, NC and works out of a private studio.

Process
DMD Metal provides a perspective in jewelry that takes notes from antiquity and re-imagines it with a modern consciousness.
Elements of cherished heirlooms are brought into a new light as he draws from a diverse background in sculpture, design and graffiti art.
This creative filter creates an ever growing visual lexicon that empowers each new piece.

Carefully using old world and modern methods of model making to capture rich and intimate detail, his designs hold a distinctive aesthetic. One that values the human hand in ancient methods while in balance with modern execution. This process often involves spending countless hours working under magnification creating prototypes to insure quality and detail within each piece. While complex and labored in approach, it serves to honor both the craft of goldsmithing and the wearer. Whether a symbol of love, mysticism or celebration of life, great pride is taken in the notion these pieces will be treasured in the lives they become a part of.
